SUNJAY has had a DIY approach to music since he was four-years-old.

This enthusiasm for playing the guitar might not have initially been appreciated by his dad, as Sunjay used to keep breaking the strings, but it has paid off handsomely as he has carved himself a unique niche in modern day music.

He plays his style of blues and country music which he will be bringing to Somerset when he arrives at the David Hall Arts Centre in Roundwell Street, South Petherton on June 2.

At present, Sunjay is playing the lead role of Buddy Holly, in Simon Fielder’s travelling theatre show of Buddy Holly &The Cricketers, a role he was offered when he went for an audition in London for a backing singer and guitarist.

He continues to play his regular gigs in between the theatre shows.

Speaking about his love for music, Sunjay said: “I started off when I was four-years-old.

“I used to take my dad’s guitar to play but ended up breaking the strings all the time.

“He decided it would be better for me to have my own guitar and he would teach me rather than me breaking his strings all the time. He used to teach me songs by the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly, what you call 1950s rock ‘n’ roll. It is funny as I am now appearing as Buddy Holly in a touring stage show.

“The music I play is not what you would call mainstream it is folk, country and blues. All this means is I am able to do what I want to do.

I do it myself and play my music live.”

He is bringing together songs for his new album which he hopes will be out in July 2018.

So far he has assembled Ghost Train, King of my own Country and Crocodile Man.

Sunjay said: “Being in the studio can be very rewarding as much as it can be frustrating.

“I love to experiment and it is difficult to know when to stop and when to draw the line.”
