RACHAEL Sweeting lives the life of a sausage roll mum more than a rock ‘n’ roll mum.

As a mum of two, Rachael juggles her time between the kids and her accoustic work plus the band she is in called Best Kept Secret.

Her love of music has played an important part in her life, while growing up and continues to do so now.

It was through music while a student at Richard Huish College in Taunton in 1997, she met her husband to be, fellow music student Matt.

Rachael has been singing since 1995, she has been in Best Kept Secret for six years and singing acoustic sets like she did today, Tuesday, outside the Brewhouse Theatre for 10 years.

Somerset County Gazette:

Speaking about music and life at the moment, Rachael said: “I am a mum of two and this acoustic set (as part of Taunton Live 2017) is nice to do as it is short and snappy and it means I can bring my kids ‘to work’.

“I and the band do a lot of our gigs in and around Taunton.

“I do not read music but I can play a guitar.

“What music gives me is pleasure as it does for so many other people.

“I get a buzz from performing and an enjoyment when I see people enjoying the music.

“It gives me a sense of satisfaction and it makes people happy.

“Singing is as they say good for the soul.”

The songs which Rachael does in her acoustic sets are a mixture of old and new, they can be a song like I'm yours by Jason Mraz or songs by Jessie J, Amie McDonald or music from the 1960s.

It is a complete mixture but it will be a set everyone can enjoy.

Before joining Best Kept Secret, Rachael was part of a duo called 28 Days.

Not after the film of the same name, they were called 28 Days as from the time they met they had 28 Days until the date of their first acoustic gig.

As Mick Jagger sung: “It’s only rock ‘n’ roll but I like it, like it, yes I do.”
