CINEMA Obscura this Sunday brings to an end its current season of diverse world films, with a rare showing of Machuca (cert 15) directed by Chilean filmmaker Andreas Wood.

The film is set in the turbulent days of 1973, in which US-backed General Augusto Pinochet seized power over Chile's democratically elected Salvador Allende, before embarking on two decades of political and bloody oppression.

Machuca tells the story of the friendship between two eleven-year-old boys. Gonzalo Infante and Pedro Machuca growing up in environments linked only by geography.

It is well worth making the effort to see Machuca, another film chosen to display just how great world cinema can be.

Manchuca will be showing on Sunday May 20 at the Wiveliscombe Primary School new hall, doors open at 7pm and the film commences at 7.30pm.

Guest entry is £4.
