THE last time Matt Carter was at the Ilminster Arts Centre he was doing work experience with jazz pianist Craig Milverton.

Since then Matt has acquired a notable reputation as a pianist, playing with some of the best jazz musicians around, including Alan Barnes, Greg Abate and Brandon Allen.

Five years on, Matt returns as a fully fledged musician, bringing with him his own quartet plus special guest Martin Dale, the South West’s top sax player.

Matt has a huge experience of performance that belies his tender years, and he has shared a stage with great soul artists such as Joss Stone, Mica Paris, and Beverley Knight. Highlights with Joss Stone included a TV performance on the Alan Titchmarsh Show and a performance at European Parliament in Brussels.

His favourite music genre is jazz and one of his own compositions, Time/Change, has been featured on Radio 3's Jazz Record Requests. Matt is also in demand as an accompanist for local jazz singers, in particular with Annika Skoogh, and has performed on many occasions in other duos, trios and quartets.
