THE Wihan Quartet who is widely regarded as one of the world's finest chamber is to return to The Castle Hotel.

The ensemble celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2015, and the programme includes a substantial dose of the music it is best known for; that of fellow countryman, Antonín Dvořák.

The Quartet’s outstanding reputation for the interpretation of its native Czech heritage, and of the many classical, romantic and modern masterpieces of the string quartet repertoire, is widely acknowledged.

During the 2012/13 season the Quartet were Czech Chamber Music Society Resident Ensemble at the Rudolfinum Dvorak Hall, Prague.

They have developed an impressive international career, which includes visits to major festivals in Europe and the Far East.

The quartet will be performing at the Castle Hotel this weekend, starting with a concert on Friday, January 13 at 6pm.

The weekend is mostly devoted to music for string quintet and sextet by five giants of chamber music repertoire: Dvořák, Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart and Brahms.

The Wihan Quartet is joined by Josef Kluson (viola) and Michal Kanka (cello), members of the Prazak Quartet which was formed in 1972, when Josef and Michal studied at the Prague Conservatory.

Throughout the weekend there are four concerts, each preceded with a talk from speaker, Richard Wigmore, a music writer, lecturer and regular broadcaster for BBC Radio 3.
