THE Brewhouse Theatre was treated to a trio of comical masters as part of its preview act leading up to the Edinburgh Fringe Fest.

Over two-thirds of the venue was filled for what was expected to be a great night of laughter with a couple of the comedians based not so far away from Taunton.

Omar Hamdi, the Egyptian-born act brought up in Wales, came to the Brewhouse with an already bursting CV of comic experience, including being the ‘hand-picked’ support act to Russell Kane.
His bouncy and hyperactive personality kept the audience on their toes, and a strange combination of deep emotional topics, such as his parents’ divorce, blended in smoothly with his material.

One act stood out for me, and that was Cerys Nelmes, the cheeky South-West ‘bilf’ who was hilarious – she has one heck of a filthy mind, but the audience were on her side.
‘50 shades of Cerys’, accompanied by the rather disturbing picture she showed of giving birth to her son, made for good interaction with the crowd.

Tom Glover, another act based in the South-West, was mellower, but still got the laughs – I felt he had a Russell Howard-type persona.

The acts were in practice, still taking notes for their trip to Edinburgh, but all three performed well and gave an insight into what the Brewhouse can offer. More of the same I say!
