PUPPET-MAKING, wood turning, sculpture and site-specific art are just a snapshot of Hammet Street’s family festival in Taunton on Saturday, September 6.

The Go Create team is coordinating activities across various locations between 9.30am and 4.30pm as part of its strategy to get Taunton folk exploring their artistic side. It will incorporate St Mary Magdalene Church’s annual children’s festival.

Starting at 9.30am at the Creative Innovation Centre in Taunton’s Paul Street with “haunting ” Spanish guitar and electronica, a ‘Pied Piper’ procession of children and artists led by Tim Hill will follow down Paul Street , North Street and Hammet Street to Church Green at 10.15am.

Some 22 bright hand-made banners will signpost the way to Church Green, which will host free creative sessions for children, including face painting, drawing, painting and mini floral workshops.

Meanwhile, at St Mary Magdalene Church visitors will find a painting exhibition, crafts and floral garments, and hear poetry by the Fire River Poets and Juncture 25.

The event will be opened by Taunton Deane Mayor Dave Durdan at 10.30am.
