IT'S the big festival from the small village with a big line up of talent to match.

This Friday sees the start of the three day Stogumber Festival, featuring top class folk, jazz and classical concerts plus more than 15 hours of free performances as well as a farmer’s market with the best food and drink.

Headline acts include legendary folk singer, and one half of the enduringly popular Show of Hands duo, Steve Knightley who opens the Festival with a solo gig.

Also appearing are the exceptional Edinburgh-based classical trio, Hebrides Ensemble; quirky jazz/pop/musical theatre singer, Gwyneth Herbert; and rising star of the Royal Opera House, Ashley Riches accompanied by leading Italian pianist, Emma Abbate.

Other names to look out for include the Elysium Brass quintet; folk singers Luke Jackson and Ange Hardy; classical harpist, Alex Rider; folk duo, The Drystones; rock/jazz singer, George Montague and American blues harmonica player/singer, Johnny Mars.

Lance Moir, chair of the Festival committee explained: "We are thrilled to have attracted such a wide-ranging line-up of top talent to perform in Stogumber.

"Apart from the ticketed concerts, there are also numerous free performances for everyone to enjoy. Amongst these will be an African dance troupe, street theatre, New Orleans style marching band, a film show, a shanty crew, acoustic guitarist, folk fiddle players and the In Ecclesia chamber choir.

"This year we have added an extra dimension which is our food and drink showcase which features 18 high quality, artisan producers, mainly from Somerset."
