SHE wanted to step up to the plate, get to first base and follow her dreams.

So, Ruth Mitchell wrote a play all about baseball and along the way, also got to know her son and her mother better.

In Homeward Bound, Ruth takes a look at the dreams we hold and the cards we are dealt as she attempts to round the bases and reach home.

In a bid to understand more about her son’s passion for baseball, Ruth was inspired to write Homeward Bound and in the process she uncovered the South West’s fascinating and longstanding connection with the game.

She also weaves in a parallel narrative about her life growing up in Bradford with both her mother and grandmother.

Ruth said “I talk about my mother’s desire to act when her mother didn’t want her to, she never gave up and she began acting professionally in her 50s once her own mother had died, so as well as baseball it’s also about ambitions and dreams.”

There is no requirement for a prior knowledge of baseball to enjoy the show
