IT was clear from the comments of Kit Chapman for Arts Taunton and Cllr Mark Edwards last week (‘Town plans too tame’, October 13) that the Coal Orchard shops scheme does not support theatre expansion, and should now be dropped.
The sole advantage of Brexit, post the dramatic devaluation of the pound, is there may be more tourists wanting to visit Taunton.
We have no coach facilities right in the centre where drivers can turn off the engine, get their statutory break, and where the passengers can later easily find their way back to a coach after shopping or dining.
For the present dour times, if we demolish the pool, a combination of coach and car parking could be set up quickly and be regulated by the many parking wardens to make the best use of this infrastructure space.
Vehicle access to the Brewhouse Theatre would then be improved, to help them win lottery funds for expansion.
