AFTER reading the article in the County Gazette concerning Amy Hofmeister’s sad death six years ago at the hands of reckless drivers (‘I live a life sentence, so killers must too’, December 8), I thought I would write this letter.

For several weeks, or even months, I have had to listen to the lunatic driving round and round the Wedlands, Lyngford and Cheddon Road areas, mainly in the evenings but sometimes during the day at very high speeds and making as much noise as possible.

I have thought of telephoning the police, but have stopped as I’m not sure which number to ring. Also will they think I’m just fussing over nothing and not consider it serious enough to warrant perhaps patrolling these areas in an unmarked police vehicle, even if it’s only for a couple of nights?

This is obviously not the only driver speeding, over time I have noticed the amount of vehicles driving well above the limit has increased dramatically, especially coming down Cheddon Road and several motorcyclists using it as a racetrack.

Unfortunately the only way that these morons will probably be stopped is when they either hit something or, even worse, somebody.

I do not want my name and address printed, just in case of reprisals, but as these individuals don’t seem to be able to read road signs or register 20 and 30 miles an hour speed limits, I don’t think there is much chance of them reading the letters page in a newspaper!
