YOUR publication’s front page last week cheered me up no end.

Three wonderful artists impressions of what is to happen to Taunton, plus on page five the great news that Taunton is to be a garden town, with another artists impression of what the “Gunnas” (gunna do this and gunna do that) are gunna do.

But, reality hit me hard on page two, with a picture of the NIDR, nowhere near completion after three years of delays.

Only a few months ago I watched a television programme on the construction of the Severn Bridge, a much more ambitious project in the 1960’s about three miles long. It was completed ahead of time; three years!

Further depression faced me on page six with a recent photograph of Firepool with the Gunnas offering more promises. How long has it been since the market moved out – 10 years?

Sadly, I’ve lived in Taunton for many years and seen it gradually deteriorate. Take, as an example, Quantock House.

A few months ago there was another artist impression indicating that it was to be demolished and replaced with another exiting development.

The only thing moving there are the windows that seems to keep falling out.

How much of my hard-earned money has been spent on projects that only seem to get as far as the artists impression stage and how much waffling in council meetings has taken place the get that far?
