I NORMALLY try to write with a little humour and mischief but the name calling of public officials and politicians in a way reported by the County Gazette (‘Outrage over Hitler comparison in merger row’, County Gazette, February 2) is to be deplored.

It is not funny, but offensive, and distracts from genuine concern or legitimate critique as it becomes the story itself and other concerns are lost.

Perhaps contributors might send in brief questions which the County Gazette might publish regarding concerns people have in relation to Taunton Deane Borough Council and how it is run/operates and Cllr Williams or the appropriate portfolio holder be given an opportunity to respond?

Similarly, the same could apply to Somerset County Council members, unless of course people are happy with our roads, public transport, social care etc.

Certain phrases, such as ‘difficult decisions’, ‘economic uncertainty’ and ‘difficult environment’ are to be discouraged in both questions and answers.
