Trull and Staplehay WI
WHILE the rain watered our gardens, 20 members of Trull and Staplehay WI met for our July meeting at
the Memorial Hall.
In Shirley’s absence, Val took the chair and welcomed a new guest.
Ann Marris, our treasurer, explained a few things about our charitable status and then we welcomed our guest speaker.
Kevin Little, from Reading, gave us an amusing anecdotal talk about his days as a fishmonger in his shop in Smelly Alley, Reading.
He continued with tales of escaped live eels in John Lewis, captured live pike taken to his shop, where the police arrived and complained that they were dangerous animals. Move the pike or be arrested.
Many more amusing tales were forthcoming and the afternoon ended with tea, Melanie’s fairy cakes and a wonderful Birthday cake, baked by Val, to celebrate our 77th Anniversary meeting. We sang Happy Birthday.
Forthcoming events:
Coffee morning, at the Hive, July 25 and August 22, at 10.30am
Summer lunch at Oake Golf Club, August 8, 12.30pm for 1pm
Afternoon Tea at Angersleigh, September 7
Next meeting, September 12, 2.15pm. Newcomers welcome.
