Time flies by so quickly. Especially as you grow older. People are busy with work and family commitments. Time seems to wait for no one. We all continue to get older and wiser in our personal lives, our finances, and our relationships. Getting older doesn’t have to mean learning stops at a certain age or point in your life. We are all constantly growing and changing, and no matter how much you’ve accomplished, you’re never too old to learn new things to better enhance your life!

Personally, I have always wanted to learn to crochet. My sister bought me all the kit I needed to begin as a Christmas present. Starting to learn was quite stressful, fiddly fingers and lack of skill needed. A few weeks ago, I signed up for a taster session run by St Giles Animal Rescue. I went with a dear friend, and we chatted and giggled as we learned together! While I’m doing my crochet I am not playing with my mobile and getting distracted. It is very relaxing to just concentrate on stitches and see something grow and develop in your hands.

Having a hobby can bring a multitude of benefits to your life, encompassing various aspects of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Engaging in a hobby you enjoy can act as a stress reliever. It provides an outlet for pent-up energy and allows you to temporarily escape from the pressures of daily life.

Hobbies often involve creative activities such as painting, writing, or crafting, which can stimulate your imagination and foster innovation in other areas of your life. Pursuing hobbies has been linked to lower levels of depression, anxiety, and negative mood. It can boost self-esteem and provide a sense of accomplishment.

Doing something you love brings joy and fulfilment, leading to increased overall happiness and life satisfaction. Many hobbies can be enjoyed with others, providing opportunities to meet new people, strengthen existing relationships, and build a sense of community.

Certain hobbies, such as puzzles, playing musical instruments, or learning a new language, can improve cognitive function, memory, and problem-solving skills.

Hobbies that involve physical activity, such as gardening, hiking, or playing sports, contribute to better physical health, increased energy levels, and improved sleep patterns.

By dedicating time to your hobbies, you learn to prioritize and manage your time more effectively, which can spill over into other areas of your life such as work or education.

Overall, cultivating a hobby is not just a leisure activity but an investment in your overall well-being and quality of life. It brings balance, fulfilment, and a sense of satisfaction that can positively impact every aspect of your life.

See you again in two weeks! Until then – Stay Safe and Be Kind.
