BACK in March 2011, a Taunton woman told how she watched a service bus destroy her car and crash into her family home.

Cassie Langford was returning to her mum’s house in Rochester Road after a night out at 11.30am on a Saturday when the taxi she was in and a First bus were in collision just outside the property.

The bus smashed into her parked car, damaging it beyond repair and shunting it to the other side of the road, before crashing through the garden wall and into the front of the garage.

Miss Langford said: “I’m devastated. I’ve got whiplash from the crash, and the front of the property is ruined.

“My car was my pride and joy – I parked it up on the kerb to keep it safe and make sure it didn’t get damaged by passing cars, and then this happens."

None of the 12 people aboard the bus at the time were injured, said First. Fire crews secured the garage with props so First could remove the bus.

A First spokesman said: “To determine exactly what happened our teams are continuing to work with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the incident. “We’d like to offer our apologies to those involved for any distress caused.”

A spokesman for Taunton Deane Council, which owns the house, said: “A bus went into the front of the garage, causing structural damage which made it unsafe. “A member of our housing services team has spoken to the tenant about the next steps now in terms of repairs.”
