A REMARKABLE woman who was born three years before the Titanic sank has celebrated a birthday.

Vera Gleed, a former dance teacher, was thrown a party at the Moorhaven Residential Home in Normandy Drive last week to mark her 103rd birthday.

Mrs Gleed was born and brought up in Bristol, where she lived until 16 years ago, apart from a period during the Second World War when she was evacuated to Frome.

Her late husband remained behind in Bristol, where he was a firefighter at BAC.
