DOZENS of new jobs could be created with the opening of a £6million factory in Wellington.

Packaging producers Rigid Containers Ltd is moving into the former Cooperative distribution warehouse on Chelston Business Park, creating up to 40 jobs.

And the firm, which is due to open its distribution hub in early April, says more jobs could be up for grabs if it gets permission to transform it into a manufacturing plant.

Managing director Richard Coward said: “We will open the site as a distribution hub in early April 2013. “It is our intention to then make the site a full production facility, for the manufacture of corrugated packaging, during the latter part of the year.

“At a time when the nation is struggling with poor levels of growth and investment, it is refreshing to have some good news."
