Wellington School fencer takes British youth crown in Sheffield

JESS Gundry of Wellington School is the British Youth U18 epee fencing champion.

The Year 12 student came through a field of 28 to take the title of Girls U18 epee at the competition in Sheffield.

Wellington School had three further pupils taking part in the competition; Jade Clarke, Year 11, took bronze in the Girls U16 epee; Henry Savage, Year 10, came 38th in the Boys U16 foil and Alex Jasper, Year 7, finished 26th in the Girls U12 epee.

George Felletar, the school's fencing coach, said: “This is a great reward for the time and dedication these pupils give to their sport and each of them can be really proud of their performance.”
