THE parents of a teenager who died in a motorbike crash have paid tribute to their son, describing him as 'fun-loving' and 'a bright young man'.

Jamie Fortune, 18, was killed when his Suzuki was in collision with an Audi A3 in Kingston Road at 2.25pm on Monday (July 1).

Former Taunton Academy student Jamie died as a result of his injuries.

Jamie's parents John and Sonia said: "Jamie's death has touched people of all ages, especially his extensive network of friends with many leaving moving tributes and messages close to the area of collision on Kingston Road, on social networks and sending personal messages.

"Jamie was an extremely popular, fun loving and bright young man and we were very proud of him. He had a promising future in mechanics and his whole life ahead of him, which was prematurely cut short.

"He has left a huge void in our life and all who knew him and words cannot express our sadness and deep loss at this devastating time. We would like to thank everyone for their kind support, love and kindness during this very sad time. Jamie will live in all our hearts forever."

Jamie also leaves behind his brother Matthew and sister Amy.

Dozens of flowers, candles and heartfelt messages are laid near the scene, and a tribute group named RIP Jamie Fortune – The Never Ending Smile was set up on Facebook and has already attracted thousands of visitors

Writing in the group, James Scoins said: “Our dear friend was stolen from us last night, leaving a void in our lives that will never be filled. Miss you Jamie.”

Jade Scriven said: “A heart of gold, full of laughter, never in a million years did I think it would come to this – such a sad time, you will be missed by many.”

@ashwarrenn posted on Twitter: “What a great guy and a great friend, this world really is a cruel place, we have lost a very special person, rest in peace Jamie Fortune.”

Others described Jamie as a “lovely guy” with an “infectious smile” and a “cheeky grin”.

Teachers at Taunton Academy also paid tribute to Jamie, describing him as a delightful young man and a pleasure to work with.

Teacher Catherine Abercrombie said: “He lit up a room when he walked in with his laughter and his warmth.

“He was kind, loyal and could make you cry with laughter.”

Caroline Kolek said: “He will be remembered for his beaming smile and good manners.”

The tragedy comes just over ten months after bike-loving teenager Jake Brawn, 19, was killed when he lost control of his machine at Blagdon Hill and smashed into a tree.

Friends of Jake and Jamie left messages on Facebook saying “you can ride the roads of heaven together” and “I hope you and Jake are watching out for each other”.

Abbie Lewis posted a heartfelt message which said: “I hope you and Jake are having fun riding the clouds, you’re in a safer place, I will always treasure our memories together.”

An inquest into Jamie’s death has been opened and adjourned, and any witnesses are being urged to call police on 101.

Jamie's funeral will take place at Taunton Crematorium on Friday, July 12 at 3.30pm. All flowers to Nigel. K. Ford funeral directors, 45 Station Rd, Taunton. Phone 01823-338369.
