TRAFFIC calming measures are being introduced along a village road following several accidents.

Road humps, new signs and lines and improved street lighting are being installed on Manor Road, Staplegrove.

Somerset County Council decided to act after complaints from villagers of vehicles damaging boundary walls and fences, including close to a playground.

Former county councillor Elaine Waymouth championed the project and the designs were finalised after consultation with the local community.

Work starts on Monday and Manor Road will be fully closed between the junction with Rectory Drive and Lawn Road for around four weeks, with further work possible outside that period.

Traffic will be diverted along Staplegrove Road, Greenway Road, Kingston Road and Corkscrew Lane with local diversions for access dependent on the precise location of the ongoing works.

Western Power will also be taking advantage of the road closure to replace underground electricity cables.
