VIVARY Park is a hotspot for sex, according to a website which lists dogging sites across Somerset.

The findings were published on www.swingingheaven.co.uk which notes an abundance of places in Taunton Deane and surrounding areas.

Vivary Park, described as the jewel in Taunton’s crown, is one of the areas that proves to be popular on the website, which also sees people share and comment on their experiences.

People on the website describe the park as: “Two cubicles available for sex. Mainly guys but seen a couple of girls. Only available during the day.”

A Taunton Deane Council spokesman said the toilets are inspected at various times throughout the day and are locked at night.

Other hotspots include Bathpool, near Taunton, the Blackdown Hills and Quantock Hills, and the website has prompted an appeal by police and the Forestry Commission.

Heather Lilley, of the Forestry Commission, said they own Staple Hill car park, in Staple Fitzpaine, and Priors Park in the Blackdown Hills, adding that they take reports of anti-social behaviour very seriously if it impacts on visitors. She added: “We inspect our car parks regularly and sexual behaviour is uncommon in woodlands we manage.

“However if it becomes an issue we take action to reduce the behaviour and its impacts, working closely with the police.

A car park close to Pines Cafe in Broomfield in the Quantock Hills is also listed as a favourite site for ‘doggers’.

But a spokesman for Pines Cafe, said: “Nothing goes on near us, I think it is all a bit of a myth.”

Inspector Stuart Bell, of Taunton Police, urged members of the public to report any activity in their area which concerns them.

He said: “This list and the activities it promotes are not illegal. However, if residents are concerned about any suspicious activity they should contact us immediately on 101 and we may well be able to attend to the situation.”
