Hydrographic Office staff help Freewheelers charity get new bike

FREEWHEELERS EVS, a local ‘Blood Bike’ charity providing emergency courier services to hospitals across Somerset, Bristol and Bath has received an early Christmas present.
Chief executive Ian Moncrieff CBE said: “In past years we have simply raised a cash sum to be donated at the end of the year.
“Having a specific project to achieve really caught the attention and interest of all in the office and we have been pleased to raise the figure to purchase the bike.”
Freewheelers member Dean Piper added: “As volunteers, we provide this service free of charge and operate nights and weekends 365 days a year.
“The cost of buying, running and maintaining our fleet of bikes to cover the vast area are always increasing and we rely entirely on donations from the public to make this service available.
“The generosity of my colleagues at the UKHO has made a huge impact on our funding this year.”
The new bike, named ‘The Admiral’ has been delivered in time to support Freewheelers through the Christmas period.
During this time their volunteers will provide a 24 hour service to over 30 hospitals over Christmas Day and Boxing Day in addition to their usual ‘out of hours’ cover.
