A PERSON has been killed in a crash on the M5 northbound between Tiverton and Wellington, Avon and Somerset Police has confirmed.
The incident took place between Junction 27 to Tiverton and Junction 26 to Wellington earlier this afternoon (December 22).
A car is reported to have left the motorway and gone down an embankment, ending up in a field.
Emergency services, including Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue, Devon and Cornwall Police, and the Highways Agency, all attended at the scene.
Collision investigators who have visited the scene are keen to hear from anyone who saw the incident to contact them on police number 101.
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We would once again like to thank the public for their patience and understanding, and remind drivers to take care in poor weather conditions."
Delays of up to an hour have been encountered, with traffic diverted via the A38 between Appledore and Burlescombe.
Police reopened lane three northbound on the stretch of motorway at around 7pm.
