One-way traffic in Kingston Road, Taunton, next week during Wessex Water work

MOTORISTS are being warned they won’t be able to use a main road heading out of Taunton next week while water mains work is carried out.

Upgrading of the pipe system starts on a section of Kingston Road on Sunday, February 16, when a one-way system will be in place.

Traffic will be permitted to travel southbound along Kingston Road and Station Road, but it will not be possible to go northbound from the junction of Station Approach to Grove Terrace.

A diversion route will in place for around a week, with the work expected to be completed by Sunday week.

Wessex Water’s Phil Luxton, project manager for the scheme, said: “We’d like to thank people in advance for their patience while we carry out this work.

“We are aware it is a busy section of the town, which is why we’re carrying out the work under one-way traffic control rather than a full road closure.

“We’ll do all we can to help alleviate the disruption caused.”

In addition, Railway Street will be closed between Kingston Road and Thomas Street.

Inbound traffic wishing to use Railway Street will be diverted around Grove Terrace and Thomas Street.

Access to North Approach travelling in an outbound direction will have to use the signed diversion route along Staplegrove Road, Greenway Road, St Andrews Road and Clifton Terrace.

A Wessex Water spokeswoman said the company wrote to people in the area to explain the situation.

The work is part of the water company’s £16million Operation Clean and Clear to update ageing underground pipes and improve drinking water in Taunton.
