Jane Hofmeister takes Think Amy! campaign nationwide

THE mother of a teenage girl killed by speeding motorists hopes to take her road safety campaign to a national audience.

Jane Hofmeister has just won charity status for her Think Amy! initiative to encourage road users to drive responsibly.

With the backing of Somerset Road Safety, she is putting together an education programme for schools and colleges.

Think Amy! has its own constitution and seven trustees, while Somerset cricket captain Marcus Trescothick has agreed to be its patron.

The campaign has already raised thousands of pounds for children and young people in the Taunton area – and any money generated will continue to be donated to local causes.

Mrs Hofmeister set up Think Amy! after her 13-year-old daughter, Bishop Fox’s student Amy, was hit by a speeding car as she cycled home on the pavement in Blackbrook Way, Taunton, on June 15, 2011.

Leonard Jones, 42, of Mulberry Close, Taunton, who was driving the car that hit Amy, was jailed for seven years after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

His then girlfriend Leanne Burnell, 20, of Bishop’s Hull, who was racing Jones in another car, denied the same charge, but was jailed for 3½ years after being found guilty at trial.

Good Luck Jane, I,m sure the people of Taunton support you. It,s very sad that you haven't got your beautiful daughter with you today, but I,m sure your efforts are saving many young lives.
Be proud of what your doing.
