7:00pm Saturday 26th April 2014 in News
A BID to rid Langport of plastic bags has been named one of the best campaigns of the past year.
Transition Langport’s Plastic Bag Free Campaign made it on to The Westbourne 100 Change Opinion Awards list.
It also carried out a survey which found 131 out of 150 shoppers in Langport wanted to get rid of plastic bags altogether.
Cara Naden, founder and co-ordinator of Transition Langport, said: “We are absolutely delighted and honoured to have made it into the Westbourne 100 most outstanding campaigns of the past 12 months.
“Our campaign sits alongside other high profile and well known organisation’s campaigns like Greenpeace’s Arctic Oil and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s Hugh’s Fish Fight.
“This demonstrates how a small rural community can make a big difference and get noticed.
“We still have a way to go for all traders to go plastic bag and packaging free but we are making good progress.”
