THESE students from a school near Taunton got the chance to become stars for the day thanks to a nationwide school news project.

Year seven pupils at Heathfield Community School, Monkton Heathfield, were transformed into scriptwriters, interviewers, presenters, camera operators and autocue workers, to give them a glimpse at how the industry works.

Redrow TV assisted with editing the final footage, showing the students how their favourite programmes are made.

Peter Hoare, head teacher at Heathfield, said: “Heathfield Community School is one of the leading specialist performing arts colleges in the country and this school news project fits in perfectly with our ethos.

“A key part of our daily school life is giving pupils a voice and encouraging budding actors, musicians, performers and dancers.

“It is great to take students outside of the classroom and encourage them to learn in exciting new ways. The students taking part grew in confidence throughout the day and both students and staff are very proud of the final film.”
