A DRAGON invasion continues this week ahead of this summer’s Taunton Deane Dragon Trail.

As reported, the first dragons have been presented to Somerset College where students are entering their own design competition to decorate their dragon.

Sponsors will also be sent the shortlisted designs as part of the County Gazette’s dragon competition this week so they can say which artwork they would like to use.

Meanwhile, a trail launch event has been confirmed for Saturday, May 17, in Taunton’s Orchard shopping centre, although the dragons themselves won’t be out and about until July.

We’ll bring you full details on what’s happening closer to the time.

Organisers are still looking for help transposing the chosen artwork on to the dragons themselves so if you can help, contact co-ordinator Mike Marshall on 01823-442294 or 07837-482747.

As well as reading your County Gazette every week for the latest details on the trail you can also keep up to date on the project’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/dragonsdeane – or you can follow the official trail feed on Twitter – @Deane_Dragons

Work on the official website and app is under way – keep reading for details.

The trail is being run by a team including volunteers, Taunton Deane councillors, along with representatives of Tone Leisure, the County Gazette, Deane DLO and local businesses.

Somerset Community Foundation will be helping to administrate money raised from the project, which will be distributed to community projects in Taunton Deane.

Once the trail has been completed, the dragons will go on display between September 29 and October 11 as part of the Quartz Arts Festival held annually at Queen’s College in Taunton.
