AN array of colour lit up the Victoria Rooms at Milverton Summer Flower Show, despite late downpours scuppering the chances of some entries.

Heavy rain last Thursday and Friday damaged some entries in the Roses and Sweet Peas classes ahead of the show on Saturday (June 28), but judges praised the standard of entries across the board.

Growers must now prepare for Milverton and District Garden Club’s autumn show, which will take place on September 13.

Prize winners were as follows:

The Hayes Perpetual Challenge Cup (Roses): D Smith.

The Redwood Perpetual Challenge Cup (Best single rose exhibit): D Smith.

The Molyneux Perpetual Challenge Cup (Sweet Peas): D Smith.

The Farcross Stores Perpetual Challenge Cup (Overall winner Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Classes): P Hutchinson.

Perpetual Challenge Cup (Floral Arrangements): S Woodgate.

MDHS Perpetual Challenge Plate (Cookery): S Hutchinson.

The Milverton Community News Perpetual Challenge Cup (Handicrafts): P Ackland.

The Milverton Community News Junior Perpetual Challenge Cup (six years and under): B Sharland.

Jocelyn Churchill Perpetual Challenge Cup (seven to 12 years): M Barton.

The Cartwright Perpetual Challenge Cup (Chairman’s Choice): P Ackland.

The James Challenge Cup (Best single Floral Arrangement): S Woodgate.

Public Choice: S Woodgate (Floral Arrangement of ‘Beecher’s Brook’).
