Wellington has a blast at Welliestock Festival

LESS than a week after Glastonbury, Wellington’s very own one-day music festival burst into life.
Hundreds of people turned out at Wellington School for the Welliestock Festival on Saturday (July 5), which showcased the best musical talent the town has to offer.
Under glorious blue skies and sunshine, the festival featured a 12-hour music marathon and various other activities to keep families entertained.
Organiser Huw Weston said: “After 11 months of planning it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves and listening to such fantastic bands.
“I know that there is so much musical talent in the Wellington area and I wanted to create something that would allow this to be showcased.”
The event raised cash for the BMX track that has recently been built near the Basins.
Huw added: “When we were planning this festival we wanted to make sure that it was a real community event and we certainly achieved that.
“It was great to see families enjoying themselves and the music was excellent.
“We hope that we will have made a small profit and we wanted to invest this back into the community. The BMX project ticks all those boxes.”
The event was the first major festival held in the town for a number of years and could be made an annual feature.
