CIDER enthusiasts will have the chance to try something new at a special event in Minehead.

There will be a pop up bar on at The Creamery, The Avenue, on August 22, to celebrate success of the cider craft at the Secret Orchard.

Members of the public will be able to sample cider as well as orchard burgers between 8pm and 11pm.

The Secret Orchard is a project that has been in the making for several years and has seen disused orchards in the Nettlecombe Estate revived by cider makers Todd Studley and Joe Heley.

Tom Wolseley, of the ancient Nettlecombe Estate, said: “I’m really proud of what they have achieved in their first year of production.

“The orchard has been transformed and great care taken over every part of the process to produce a thirst-quenching cider with the freshness of apples to the fore.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Secret Orchard Cider.”

Last year, family and friends of the two entrepreneurs helped to gather, wash and press the crop and Mr Heley said: “It was a particularly good harvest, with both quality and quantity beyond what we could have hoped for.

“It will be a while before the saplings we planted provide a proper crop, but the existing trees are all excellent traditional cider varieties – we are just adding to that with more of the same.”
