TRIBUTE is to be paid to more than 70 Langford Budville villagers who fought or served in the First World War which started 100 years ago.

Parishioners on the Roll of Honour will be remembered in an anthology of song and verse entitled Songs That Won The War at St Peter’s Church at 7pm on Friday, November 7.

Proceeds from the event – tickets are £10 – will go to The Royal British Legion (Wellington) and Friends of St Peter’s Church.

There will be a special tribute to Alan Tucker, who as a boy lived in the village and attended the school, and who tirelessly researched the service records of all those named on the Roll of Honour before his death last year.

Organisers are hoping that relatives of those who signed up will attend – they will be invited to sign a commemorative programme to be kept as a historical reference document.
