VISITORS to the West Somerset Railway’s Bishops Lydeard station will have noticed a bright new banner to welcome them, thanks to pupils from the local school.

Children at Bishops Lydeard Primary School were asked to help design a banner by each drawing a picture to represent each of stations along the railway line which runs from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead.

The best pictures were then picked and put on the banner, which was unveiled at the station last Wednesday (April 22).

Alan Nicholson station manager for the Bishops Lydeard station said: “When Ian Retter, my predecessor and I considered producing this banner last year, our objectives were two fold.

“Firstly to enhance the welcome we give to our customers coming to the railway by showing the route, our stations and various tourist attractions along the way.

“Secondly to show how important it is for us to work together with the local community here and to show our thanks to everyone.

“The children from each class produced some fantastic pictures from which we selected with great difficulty.

“We would like to thank everyone who supports us, we hope you like this banner and please enjoy taking a ride on our heritage railway in the future.”
