SCIENTIST Dr Debra Wallace from Taunton is the Royal Society of Chemistry Organic Industrial Chemistry Award winner for 2015.
Dr Wallace works to find the best ways to make molecules that are vital for a range of medicines, large quantities of which are needed to keep supplies of important drugs available.
Her work involves finding ways to meet the demand safely and sustainably.
She receives £2,000, a medal and a certificate.
Dr Wallace said: “I feel this award acknowledges that innovative chemistry takes place in industrial, as well as academic institutes, and highlights our determination that chemistry will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible.”
