TRULL Primary School has been officially designated a Healthy School'.

It has achieved National Healthy School Status, ensuring pupils can enjoy a high standard of provision in personal, social and health education; healthy eating; physical activity; and emotional health and well-being.

The school has introduced whole school aerobics every day, healthy lunchboxes, hot school meals, a wider variety of after school clubs and more.

Kath Wilson, Somerset County Council's Healthy Schools Co-ordinator, said: "There is increasing evidence that young people who are healthy achieve well at school.

"By gaining National Healthy School Status, Trull has demonstrated that it is able to play a key role in improving the health of its young people by developing the knowledge, skills and positive attitudes required to make healthy choices both now and in the future."

County council Portfolio Holder for Education Cllr Gloria Cawood said: "We are supporting all schools to gain National Healthy School Status because we recognise that healthy young people are more likely to do better and enjoy life."

Head teacher Heather Cunningham said: "The children, staff, governors and parents are pleased to see the positive impact this initiative is having on the whole school community."

The Government wants 75% of schools to achieve National Healthy School Status and all schools to be working towards achieving National Healthy School Status by 2009.
