A TAUNTON couple have shared the secret to a long and happy married life as they celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
Brian and Janet McCarthy were married 60 years ago tomorrow, (August 27) at St Andrews Church on Greenway Avenue.
Brian recalls the first time he met Janet.
He said: "It was a long, long time ago, I must have only been 19 and I was home for the weekend as I was in the navy.
"I saw this young lady one day and I started whistling at her.
"It was love at first sight."
Brian says he spent the next four years courting Janet before they got married.
He added: "It was a lovely day with our family and friends.
"We've had a wonderful marriage together with lots of holidays and we renewed our vows for our 50th anniversary.
"We've got three lovely children and four grandchildren and we see as much of them as we can.
"I think the secret to staying married so long is trying not to argue too much.
"You should never go to bed on an argument and I always make sure to give Janet a kiss goodnight and tell her I love her."
