THREE of the finest students at the Hestercombe Centre for Young Musicians have been selected to perform their composition at the BBC Proms.

The school is a division of the Guildhall School and students Michael Qureshi, Yasmine Qureshi and Evie King have been chosen to perform their piece.

They will perform their piece Fluto no uto, alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the BBC Ten Pieces Prom on July 23 and 24.

Fluto no uto was created in response to the BBC Ten Pieces project during the spring term at Hestercombe CYM and was composed by the students unsupervised.

The composition will be rearranged by composer Gareth Glyn and two musicians from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

The piece received an informal world premiere at a public performance at the end-of-term concert at Hestercombe CYM on July 2.

Stephen Dagg, director, CYM national strategy, said: “I am delighted that Fluto no uto, has been selected for performance at the BBC Ten Pieces Prom at the Royal Albert Hall.

The centre, based in Hestercombe House, is a vibrant part of a national network of centres bearing the CYM name as part of the Guildhall School’s young artists’ programme.

“I would like to pay tribute to all the students and staff at the Hestercombe Centre for achieving so much in only their seventh term of existence. I very much look forward to hearing the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the composers performing this exciting new work.”
