THE completion date for a new £22 million road being built in Taunton has been put back yet again.
The Northern Inner Distributor Road will not now be finished until January next year, it was announced today (Tuesday, October 11).
The mile-long road linking Staplegrove Road at Chip Lane with Priory Avenue was originally scheduled to open in early 2015.
And recently the contractors Carillion told Somerset County Council the work would be over by the end of this year.
But the scheme, which includes two bridges, a new foot bridge over the railway line, a new roundabout and an upgraded one, has been plagued by delays.
The announcement was made at a Somerset County Council scrutiny meeting this morning.
The reasons for the delays have never been officially revealed, although it is well known that there were problems converting the disused rail bridge over Station Road into a road bridge.
NIDR £22millilon; £15.2m Gov; £2.5m SCC, £4.3 developer contributions; additional £3.145m allocated earlier this year to highways, believed to be for NIDR. originally due to be completed by early 2015.
