NATURE lovers in West Somerset are being urged to man local beaches in the annual UK National Whale and Dolphin Watch, which starts on Saturday.
Organisers, the marine and conservation charity Sea Watch Foundation hopes that more people than ever before in the South West will get involved this year, by sending in their sightings of whales, dolphins and porpoises.
The main lookout in the district will be Greenaleigh Point, about a mile west of Minehead.
The Watch is now in its sixth year. Data gathered increases understanding of British marine mammals, their variety, distribution and the threats they face.
During last year's Watch, more than 600 sightings were made from around the British coastline of eight different species including killer whales, minke whales and white-beaked dolphins.
