WEST Somerset Railway has scooped a prestigious award for a major scheme that will allow trains to turn round.

The Norton Fitzwarren turning triangle project has been highly commended by the Institution of Civil Engineers.

The award was handed out at jointly to the West Somerset Railway and its two partners for the Norton triangle site, John Luffman Trading and the Network Rail High Output Track Laying and Ballast Cleaning Team, at an annual dinner in Bristol this week in recognition of exceptional engineering and co-operation across several organisations, plus a high degree of innovation and environmental sensitivity.
