Parish Council: The First ordinary meeting of the newly elected Corfe Parish Council was held on June 12.
The key issue discussed was the establishment of a council programme for the coming year. The key objective for 2007/8 will be the introduction of steps to enhance the beauty of Corfe, including the possibility of the removal of overhead wiring and other steps, generally for the improvement of the amenities and attraction of the village for the benefit of residents and visitors.
The government proposals to create a unitary council for Somerset were closely examined with the resulting decision that implementation would impair the close working relationship existing between the present local government administration and the parish councils and was unanimously opposed. It was especially felt that the proposed unitary authority could well become distant from and less responsive to parish needs.
The next meeting will be held at Corfe village hall at 6.30pm on Tuesday, July 3.
