A MAN had to be rescued off the railway bridge at Silk Mills on Sunday evening - causing trains to be delayed.
Fire crews from Taunton were asked by police to assist with the rescue of a 34-year-old man following a call by Network Rail.
The call was received from a member of staff from the Network Rail depot at Fairwater Yard, just after 10pm on Sunday, June 17.
Within an hour the man was rescued by the Fire and Rescue Service before being handed over to the police.
Kirsty Anderson, a spokeswoman for Network Rail, said: "Four trains were affected with a total delay of 36-minutes."
She added that trains went past the scene "very, very slowly" and were stopped while the man was being rescued.
A police spokesman said: "A 34-year-old man was arrested from the bridge under the mental health act, and he was taken into custody at Taunton Police but he was later released without charge and put into the hands of the local authority."
