AS part of Learning Disability Week Somerset County Council is holding an event that aims to help people with learning disabilities find new ways of taking a break from routine.

On Friday June 22 from 12noon-4pm at Blackbrook Pavillion in Taunton, taster sessions are being offered on a wide range of activities, including horse carriage riding, wall climbing and atmospherics, which aim to stimulate the senses.

Practical advice will be on offer, with plenty of suggestions and ideas on how to use small pockets of time effectively, and ways that direct payments can be used to increase flexibility and choice when choosing social and leisure activities and respite breaks.

Voluntary organisations, such as Mencap, Inclusion SW and A4e will also be there to offer advice and information on how to take the next step and find transport and volunteers that can help to make it happen.
