A TAUNTON primary school has become the first ever primary school to receive a chaplain in Somerset.
The Bishop Henderson Church of England School, in Taunton, received a special visit from the Bishop of Taunton, the Rt Rev Peter Maurice, to commemorate the event.
The school is one of the largest primary schools in Somerset, and has just been awarded 'outstanding school' status following a recent Ofsted inspection.
Representatives of the school, along with the Rt Rev Bishop of Taunton, Peter Maurice, head teacher Tracey Khodabandehloo, governors and the clergy got together for a service to commission the Rev Jenny Jeffery as school chaplain.
To celebrate the children released biodegradable balloons with prayers for the world attached.
Mrs Khodabandehloo, said: "The spontaneous clapping and cheers from the children concluded the joyful celebration."
