REMEMBER, remember, the fifth of November.

Hordes of people will be wrapping up warm over this weekend as they are wowed by fantastic displays.

Events are being held all across the county to mark the date, with hog roasts, barbecues and family friendly fairs all being organised.

Here is our list of the top events to head to over the weekend.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4

There are three events in the area tonight for those that want to get in early with their celebrations.

  • The main one will be in Bridgwater, when the town’s famous carnival launches with a bang with a ‘Grand Firework Display’.

Sponsored by Bridgwater Town Council and supported by Sedgemoor District Council for the eleventh successive year, the curtain raiser event will take place on Friday, November 4 at 7.30pm at St Matthew’s Field.

The glittering fireworks display has proved popular in the past with spectators and has been well supported by people in and around the Sedgemoor area.

The build up to the fireworks display will start at 3pm, as there will be other attractions at St Matthew’s Field to entertain the family, including a handful of fairground rides, kindly provided by the world famous Chipperfield family.

School children from Willowdown Primary School, Otterhampton Primary School, St Mary’s Church of England Primary School and Elmwood School, will also be getting in on the fun with a special lantern parade before the big display begins.

Malcolm Cattle, president for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, added: “It is terrific news that we are once again able to hold a grand fireworks display on carnival night eve, and it will get the town in the mood for what is to come the following night."

  • Wiveliscombe’s annual firework display will take place will also take place tonight.

It will be held at the Wiveliscombe Recreation Ground, on West Road, from 6pm.

There will be refreshments and bar. Entry costs £5 for adults and £2 for children.

  • Also tonight, Chard Rugby Club will host a fireworks display.

The event is open to the public from 6.30pm, with the display 7.30pm.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5

On the actual night, there are three main events to head to

  • The Rotary Club of Crewkerne & District Trust will be hosting a bonfire and firework display.

It will take place at the Stagecoach Inn, on Station Road. Gates will open at 6.30pm ahead of the lighting of the bonfire at 7pm. From 7.30pm, the skies will be lit with fireworks.

Entrance is £6 per adult, £2 per child and under 5s are free.

With plenty of parking and hard standing to watch the fireworks and marvel the bonfire, the event is one not to be missed.

Gates open at 6.30pm and close at 11pm.

Tickets cost £7 per adult or £2 per child and the Pavilion will be open for hot food and soft drinks, as well as bar facilities. For more details call 01460 779 53.

  • GIDDY up for some great fireworks at Taunton racecourse.

Come and join the fun at the Hatch Fireworks at the racecourse.

It is one of Somerset’s largest and spectacular displays, with a large bonfire also being lit.

The display is choreographed to music, with the first firework launched at 7.30pm.

There will be a hog road, barbecue and refreshments, plus various family friendly attractions.

All money raised will go towards Samaritans Taunton, plus a number of other local charities.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6

  • On Sunday, there will be a fireworks spectacular at Ilminster Town Football Club.

It will be held at the club’s recently unveiled Archie Gooch Pavilion, at Brittens Field, Ilminster.

Gates will open for the family focused event at 4pm to the sounds of a Samba band. The school's Guy competition will be judged at 4.45pm before the bonfire is lit, with a little more Samba music at 5pm. A stella fireworks display will commence from 6pm.

Advanced tickets are available from The Shrubbery Hotel, Archie Gooch Pavilion, Bonners, Cottage Flowers and Harrimens & Spar Garage, at a discounted rate of £5.50 per adult and £2 for under 16s.

Tickets purchased on the night will cost £7 per adult or £3 for under 16s. Proceeds will go to Ilminster Town youth, senior and disability teams.

  • West Somerset residents are in for a firework spectacular at a free event on Minehead seafront.

The event is sponsored by Butlins, and starts at 6.30pm.

Burnham-on-Sea residents will be treated toa  firework display on Sunday night.

  • The Grand Fireworks display will take place on Sunday, at 6.30pm on the Esplanade.

The mayor, cllr Michael Clarke, will countdown before the display starts.

The Burnham sky will be lit up with amazing colours when the rockets are set off by Skyburst from Bristol, with music accompanying the display.

The public viewing area will be from the Esplanade with the beach forming part of the exclusion zone, however this may have to be extended depending on weather factors and wind direction on the right.
