A SCOOTER last on the road more than 50 years ago is looking for a new owner.

Since it was last used it has been gathering dust in a garage in Somerset, with loads of other junk piled on top.

It's now going up for sale at the Charterhouse auction of classic motorcycles being held in conjunction with the Carole Nash Bristol Classic Motorcycle Show on Sunday, February 5.

The firm's Matthew Whitney said: "Perhaps the most exciting part of visiting clients is discovering barn and garage stored classic cars and motorcycles.

“Some collectors like nothing more than totally restoring these basket case projects.

"Other collectors just like to give them a wipe over with a cloth and try to get them going and run their pride and joy in an original and oily rag state.”

Dating from the 1950s, the NSU Prima scooter going under the Charterhouse hammer was taken off the road in 1965.

For over 50 years it languished in its Somerset garage during which time the garage filled up with old lawn mowers and redundant stereos, and when storage became tight in the garage, the owner simply pilled everything on top of the scooter.

After the owner died last year, Charterhouse were instructed to clear the property.

As the owner lived in a rural village for many years very little had been thrown away.

Along with a drawer full of pieces of string not long enough to be useful but which might come in handy one day, the old scooter was simply wheeled into a garage and left.

Now entered into the Charterhouse auction of classic and vintage motorcycles, this restoration project, with no accompanying paperwork or keys, is estimated to sell for £500-800.
