THE 5p coins have been rolling in to Taunton-based charity Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment.
Donations of the little silver coins to SURE, which buys equipment for the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Musgrove Park Hospital, included £11.25 from Dennis and Rosemary Buckingham; an anonymous gift of £20.40; £3 from Jackie O'Mara; £2 from Mollie and Brian Eastwood; £2.10 from Pauline Harrison; £64.30 from Charlotten Troup, of Wellington; £5 from Jamie Stevens Hair Salon, in Woolavington; and £5.90 from Marion Upton.
There was also £60 from Burnham-on-Sea Bellringers in lieu of sending Christmas cards; £322 from Michael and Denise Stanbury, who organised a whist drive at Exford Hall; and £36.34, mainly in 5ps, from Jane House and Kingston St Mary village.
Carols in the Cattle Shed at Tetton Farm, Kingston St Mary raised £300 and West Buckland Military Whist Drives coined in £200.
A collection at the Tone Valley Group of WI's annual carol service hosted by West Buckland WI raised £111 and from a collection over Christmas and the new year by Mrs S. Woodland, family and friends totalled £70.
There was £91 from the Tuesday Night Dance Group at Norton Fitzwarren, £85 from Madge Smith, of West Buckland, in lieu of birthday presents, £20 from Lynda Turner in memory of her husband, Geoff, and £160.10 from the Beacon Centre.
The weekly total of £1,568.39 means £661,952.86 has been raised since SURE linked up with the County Gazette.
