CHARITIES and organisations in Bridgwater are being invited to put themselves forward to receive support from a festival in the area.

Gumbeerfest, the annual beer and music festival at Stogumber Cricket Club near Bridgwater, is looking for worthy causes to raise money for in 2017.

James Weetch, one of the organisers of the event taking place on July 21 and 22, explained: “As well as raising funds for the cricket club, we also donate a proportion of the money raised from each festival to local charities and organisations.

“We are looking for worthy causes to support in 2017 and are aware there are many charities and organisations in the area that would benefit from help with a particular project or campaign.

“We would like people to get in touch and tell us why they are putting their charity or organisation forward to be considered as one of our beneficiaries this year.”

Mr Weetch added: “In 2016 we donated money to Elliot’s Touch, Minehead Ladies Hockey Team, St Mary’s Church in Stogumber, Stogumber Playground, Stogumber Snooker Club and the Young Farmers.”

Gumbeerfest, which is in its eighth year, takes place within the grounds of Stogumber Cricket Club.

“In 2016 we donated money to Elliot’s Touch, Minehead Ladies Hockey Team, St Mary’s Church in Stogumber, Stogumber Playground, Stogumber Snooker Club and the Young Farmers,” Mr Weetch said.
