SIX students are being sought to take part in a new media diploma and apprenticeship course being run at the Bridgwater Arts Centre.

The course is being run by Bristol-based media training provider Boomsatsuma, a company which specialises in delivering specialist skills in film, photography, graphic design and digital media.

John Saunders, business recruitment manager for Boomsatsuma explained: "We are looking to turn education on its head. In Bridgwater it is basically a given that everyone goes to Bridgwater College, but we want people from all backgrounds to be aware of the opportunities outside Bridgwater.

"The diploma qualification is the equivalent to three A Levels, but in picking our students we prioritise passion and drive over academic qualifications," he said.

Mr Saunders said: "We want people with the right personality to join us, it is not necessarily about your grades. "We like to interview people from all backgrounds and see if they are the right fit, and we don't want to write people off based on what they did at GCSE."

Students will have three days a week based in Bridgwater at the Arts Centre and one day a week at The Engine Shed in Bristol with the Agency.

Boomsatsuma say the course provides the best of a diploma and an apprenticeship but is not paid.

"Our agency has done work for KFC, Banksy's Dismaland and with Bristol City Football Club and we are rapidly expanding," Mr Saunders said.

Katie Goodale, artistic director at Bridgwater Arts Centre said: "We are recruiting for six young people to become our Agency.

"You will be programming and marketing gigs, creating advertising strategies, producing photography, music videos and developing social media platforms.

"Its a great opportunity for anyone who wants to work in the creative industries because as well as achieving your diploma, you will get great work experience that will set you up for university or to go straight into work."
